One Year and Still Here - Anniversary of Johnny Mestizo!

One the 15th of November, 2007 I started this blogging adventure. From my humble beginnings I posted my mission statement with a basic topic of sailing. At the time I thought that writing about my hobby would be interesting. But when push came to key stroke I had writer’s block. So then the blog topic changed to “Sailing, techno gadgets, fitness and finance - stay tuned“. From here, randomness set in and has been going strong ever since. The funny thing is this - JohnnyMestizo[dot]com (JM) has allowed me to write about whatever topic I take interest in at the time. I write what I want.

The Evolution of Johnny Mestizo [dot] com

NOV 2007 DEC 2007 MAR 2007

A year on JM is as random as ever and I believe I will keep it this way. I have tried to create other specialised blogs with limited success. I found that spreading the limited time I have across a variety of blogs meant I could maybe post once a week from each. A posting frequency of once a week is good for me and my lifestyle. Two things were raised above: Firstly do I write across multiple niche blogs or write with one multi-topic blog, and secondly do I write big posts with 1 week breaks or write small posts with 1 day breaks. My preferences have evolved to the following tendencies… Read the rest of this entry »

Are You An Apple Convert? iPod Has Touched Me

For years Apple and all its marketing had no effect on me. I sat with my cheap IBM clones, intolerable mp3 playing mobiles and sank in Microsoft applications. For my 26th birthday I was given an iPod Touch and I’m blown away. Read the rest of this entry »

Well to people who know me fitness is a high priority. I am working on getting my fitness blog up and running so here is my first post: Hype or Helper - Digging into Skins Compression Wear.

Fitburner is all about Strength Endurance training. In the future I hope to have training programs, tips, workouts, my recommended products, nutritional info and pretty much anything else I discover on my road to my potential fitness! Stay tuned.

Why the heck am I splitting my blog?

Cattacino Please - Excreted Cat Coffee is No Shit

The world\'s most expensive cup of coffee has gone on sale in London – priced at a mere £50.
Back on the 10th of April 2008, ‘cat poo coffee’ hit the streets of London. Selling for £50 a cup they are made from a blend of Jamaican Blue Mountain and the rare Kopi Luwak bean.

Cat Coffee - An Explanation

The Malaysian Civet - Courtesy of the Malaysia Scrapbook blog

Kopi Luwak beans are eaten and shat out by the Indonesian Civet Cat. Civets live in coffee plantations across South East Asia. They have a taste for ripe quality coffee berries.

The coffee cats digestive system utilises enzymes to break down the flesh of the fruit before the animals expels the bean. Workers collect beans from the plantation floor, wash away the dung and roast them.

Who Ate Shit Beans First?

Centuries ago when villagers worked in compulsory Dutch plantations times were rough. From day to day they picked and picked handing all their efforts to their colonial masters. Essentially, the villagers Read the rest of this entry »

My First Krispy Kreme

krispy_kreme_glazed_closeup.jpg

After much hype from friends, coworkers, my spouse and family I have finally given in to the pinnacle of sweetwares -the original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut. I have to agree to the experience resembling ‘eating a cloud’. They are sweet, melt in your mouth and go down extremely well.

I’ve managed to hold out this long due to lack of nearby store locations. My weakness was the fact a bloke at work brought some in for a fundraiser. I figured ‘Hey it’s for charity‘ and starting mindlessly munching. Read the rest of this entry »
