BMW 320i versus my VZ Commodore

Today I test drove the 2006 BMW 320i. I liked the look of it sitting there in the BMW dealership and never had the BMW experience. There is a benefit to being 25 years old. You’re at the age to be trusted by BMW dealers to test drive their vehicles. Of course I had to sign for insurance before I could get it out of the car yard.

Now let me say from the start I am not a car enthusiast and simply use my Holden Commodore to get from A to B. I have owned three cars. A 1982 VH Commodore, a 1989 VN Commodore and a 2006 VZ Commodore. I enjoy keeping her clean and make sure my Holden complies to it’s service booklet. I am not a race car driver but prefer to cruise. My seat is slightly back, my arm up on the steering wheel and at slow speeds like the window down. When I give it gas I want to accelerate, when I brake I want my car to slow down. If you can relate to my simple drive technique then the next statement will not shock you.

With my foot planted on the accelerator the car crawled from 40km/hr to 60/km in 5 seconds.

It might have been longer but my brain was in shock and looking for reasons to pay $50,000 for this car? The steering was good and on the open highway and the noise was low. Super safe airbags on the steering wheel, passenger dash and both car doors for protection from side impact. The stereo featured bluetooth to hook into my mobile phone.

This leads me to my revelation. If it’s style, prestige and accessories you want buy the BMW 320i. Maybe it’s my simple Holden Commodore or nothing outlook on life but my mind is certainly not changed with this test drive. Feel free to visit my BMW loving mate over at slack-as, perhaps he could shed some light on this matter. Well I have to say my first BMW experience was a bit of a let down. I guess I am a simple man - when you hit the accelerator you get GO!

Whatever your thoughts are for money vs. performance feel free to comment below. :)

As I am a biased and loyal Holden driver, this is not a proper car review so you should check out the 2006 BMW 320i at WorldCarFans.com
