On the 26th of March 2008 [dot] Asia domains were released to the public. It has been a massive first-come-first-served fight out. What they (dotasia.org) tried to do was have pre-registrations so companies, individuals and governments could reserve their names and trademarks. As for quality updated information on the net, check the .asia forums out there.
In my humble opinion dotasia.org did well. They are cashing in on the domain frenzy big time. Check the domain tickers on their website. It is basically a scrolling stock market domain price indicator. A group called Sunrise have reserved a giant swath of quality domains and are auctioning them off for a humble penny.
- Ace.asia - USD $20,501
- MediaWorld.asia - USD $10,000
- Spotlight.asia - $5,700
“.asia sux”
There are people out there who think .asia is a joke. Well I have to seriously say “.ASIA is for REAL!”
This is the market of people-countries-businesses-organisations who want to take their identity onto the internet!
Afghanistan, Antarctica, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Cook Islands, Cyprus, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Georgia, Heard and McDonald Islands, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Korea, Democratic People’s Republic of, Korea, Republic of, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, New Zealand, Niue, Norfolk Island, Oman, Pakistan, Palau, Palestinian Territories, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga Islands, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vietnam, Western Samoa, Yemen.
So if your American and think .asia has nothing to stand on… Think Again!
Let’s Talk Domains
You have seen the dot com domains boom with online auctions and reservations running rampant. Why? To establish your online presence you need a memorable and relevant domain name. This makes domains a finite resource - with demand creates value. That’s how you get someone paying USD $345 Million for Business.com!
.ASIA 3 Letter Domains
I compiled a list of 3 letter words. Plugged them into my friendly .asia registrar and the results were…
Absolutely horrendous. Not a single 3 letter domain is available. (Where’s the 2 letter? ICANN doesn’t allow it)
.ASIA 4 Letter Domains
Well, I think someone is running the ol’ dictionary generator over these potential goldmines already. Every official english word seems to be bought out. My theory is - dot asia org (Sunrise) has simply registered them all and is selling them off for auction. However, running an extended list with places and peoples names you get some surprising results.

Hello Johnny.
Nice article, very helpful and gives accurate information about .ASIA domain market.
I got few nice domains today, such as http://www.localdirectory.asia & http://www.footwears.asia there are still 100s of domains in .asia which are available, could not register them all.
But anyhow, in next couple of days, all imp. words will be registered by someone from somewhere.
And in next 2-3 years, everybody will reap the benefits of .ASIA by selling them in $xxxx.
Thanks & Regards
Danish K.

Hello everyone, i just got an new .ASIA Domain name.
CYBERABAD.asia
What is cyberabad ??
Cyberabad is an city near Hyderabad.
Cyberabad houses only MAJOR IT COMPANIES, if you search in GOOGLE about Cyberabad, you’ll know about it.
OH MY GOD.
I did a research on words, and got the following domains in DOT COM.
http://www.hindiPROPERTY.com
what does HINDI means?
Hindi is the main language spoken in INDIA, in short, 1 BILLION people in india & millions of NRIs abroad speak HINDI. Its easy to target them all for their property needs..
http://www.bringPROPERTY.com
lets see, what i’ll get for these VALUABLE domain names which are in DOT COM.
I am a dot asia believer. For those that are patient and wait for websites to develop (which will make the extention known to the masses) I think they will be laughing all the way to the bank - me included I hope. Where else can you invest a little less that $20 with the potential of thousand in return in 3 years or so. Your bank would only give you approx $5 on that $20 over 3 years. I would rather take my chances than grow old keeping my money in the bank with a guarantee of no hope of getting anywhere. All domains developed, even in basic form can make money and $20 a year is not a big ask. This way you at least break even so having the names don’t really cost anything. Yet, you own them all the same should the dot asia domain extention take off.
I have over 350 and want to develop at least half…so I better get back to work!
Check out What .ASIA’s do you own? topic in the Mestizo forums. I truly believe in the value of .asia as well GL ! The population of the world is clearly in our favour. I like to think .asia domains are a cheap entry into investing into Asia’s Growth - LOL JM
Experts predict that 95 percent of all South Korean households will be wired for broadband Internet by the year 2010. Ninety-four percent of Japanese homes will have broadband access, with Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia expected to be nearly 80 percent wired. By 2010, China will have replaced the US as the largest Internet market in the world. http://www.ix-one.com
