My 1TB comes with proprietry software to allow you to upload files from home and from another location over the net. Which doesn’t really mean much - you go through your home net router and into the ethernet interface which is included in the box.

In South Australia FUIC Rules

This iced coffee cocktail is legendary in SA. It is part of the daily routine for many. Having one to start the day at smoko or at lunch to power you on through out the day. I can tell you this is true as I am one of the legions of screaming FUIC fans. Don’t believe me then check out the 827 strong following on facebook!

Back in ‘02 FUIC was Australia’s largest selling flavoured milk with a consumption of over 27 million litres per year. I remember when I would cruise the Adelaide back roads in my Holden (I’m sure I’ll outgrow this habit one day) and pull into a Macca’s drive-thru to simply order a FUIC.

Selected McDonald’s, Hungry’s and KFC’s stock them as an extra beverage item for insertion into your meal deal upon request. Awesome.

Farmers Union Iced Coffee outsells Coca-Cola in South Australia, making it the only place in the world where a milk drink outsells a cola product, and one of the few places that Coca-Cola is not the most popular bottled beverage.

What’s in this Amazing Drink?

Notice how caffeine is not specified above? Then I found this on Wiki (Iced Coffee) - Most commercial varieties of Australian iced coffee have 2-3 times the caffeine of cola.

So I headed over to the owner of Farmers Union Iced Coffee and found out the following:

All flavoured milks made by National Foods contain less than 65 milligrams (mg) of caffeine per 250mL serve, which is less than the caffeine content of 1 cup of coffee (which contains approximately 110mg per 250ml).

Fat content is a downside as discussed on a FUIC post from Blurb from the Burbs.

Despite FUIC telling us that it’s ‘Reduced Fat Iced Coffee’, it has nearly 3g of fat per 100ml, or roughly 18g of fat per drink. Now that’s more than one Mars Bar and I sure as hell ain’t going to waste my precious fat intake on a mere drink.

What are the FUIC varieties?

Since 23-OCT-06 in SA Strong (strong caffeine/coffee taste) and Light (low fat) versions of the iced coffees. This is to add to their Feel Good range of low-fat/sugar milk drinks coffee and chocolate flavours.

The feel good variety took the title as my favourite iced coffee and chocolate milk back in 2003 for myself personally. I would take a 15 minute break in the morning from my office job in CBD Adelaide. I would head back in to my Level 7 office job - Feel Good FUIC proudly in hand.

Upon heading out to the might 45 minute lunch break any meal would be complimented by another reinvigorating FUIC.

Imagine a population stuck at work or snowed under a pile of exam study papers who all have one thing in common. They need to take a break to refresh. Refreshed and reinvigorated they return to their mundane tasks fitter than before.

Back on the 10th of April 2008, ‘cat poo coffee’ hit the streets of London. Selling for £50 a cup they are made from a blend of Jamaican Blue Mountain and the rare Kopi Luwak bean.

Cat Coffee - An Explanation

Kopi Luwak beans are eaten and shat out by the Indonesian Civet Cat. Civets live in coffee plantations across South East Asia. They have a taste for ripe quality coffee berries.

The coffee cats digestive system utilises enzymes to break down the flesh of the fruit before the animals expels the bean. Workers collect beans from the plantation floor, wash away the dung and roast them.

Who Ate Shit Beans First?

Centuries ago when villagers worked in compulsory Dutch plantations times were rough. From day to day they picked and picked handing all their efforts to their colonial masters. Essentially, the villagers took advantage of their feline friends to smuggle coffee beans out of plantations, harvest their dung and with considerable preparation the cattacino was born!

Is My Kilo of Cat Coffee the Pure Shit?

You gotta love it. You hype up your product and the world catches on. Then along come the counterfeits and dodgy suppliers…

With thanks to people like the Canadian food scientist Massimo Marcone the quality of cat coffee market can be confirmed. Studying cat poo like bullet markets he spends his time searching for striations under an electron microscope to confirm who excreted it. The results of Massimo’s studies found that kopi luwak drinkers should be wary of contaminated shit.

“About 42% of all the kopi luwaks that are presently on sale are either adulterated or complete fakes, unfortunately,” he said.

Why Are We Talking About Cat Poo?

Money. Strong coffee, marketed as super-rare, from a finite resource and delivered as a luxurious package to anticipating consumers.

A pound of their droppings yields less than 5 ounces of beans. Roasting reduces the quantity by an additional 20%. With just 500 to 1,000 pounds of the real thing coming on the global market each year, demand quickly drives up the price.

The media has been drumming this up for the past 6 months and now their is a high demand for curious coffee addicts. Rumours even have this commodity at $US 3000 a kilo!

Scientist Verdict

Real kopi luwak has a top note of rich, dark chocolate, with secondary notes that are musty and earthy, the scientist said.

Indonesian Verdict

An Indonesian coffee lover described the scent as the smell of moist earth after a rainfall, with hints of vanilla, that teases the palate for hours after the cup is empty.

Barista Verdict

We did taste the coffee. We paid AUD$50 for a two cup pot. I — as did the others I was travelling with, tried to savour every sip and turn it into one huge sensory assessment. It didn’t take long (or many sips) for me to decide that the coffee was neither clean or particularly interesting in a good way. It was interesting — we had consensus on that — but the characteristics in the cup that we were all experiencing weren’t that pleasant. The coffee was musty, it had a fermented taint (and a distinct poo note) and reminiscent of coffee that we would have discarded during a cupping because of perceived defect levels.

Johnny Mestizo Verdict

I’m keen to try authentic Kopi Luwak coffee and for the price I will down the full cup. Curiousity and hype will get me this far. However, once the honeymoon is over and the shitty dirt after taste kicks in I will be more than happy to return to my Farmers Union Iced Coffee.

After much hype from friends, coworkers, my spouse and family I have finally given in to the pinnacle of sweetwares -the original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut. I have to agree to the experience resembling ‘eating a cloud’. They are sweet, melt in your mouth and go down extremely well.

I’ve managed to hold out this long due to lack of nearby store locations. My weakness was the fact a bloke at work brought some in for a fundraiser. I figured ‘Hey it’s for charity‘ and starting mindlessly munching.

After eating this evil pleasure you have to ask yourself, ‘How unhealthy is this for me?’

On the 26th of March 2008 [dot] Asia domains were released to the public. It has been a massive first-come-first-served fight out. What they (dotasia.org) tried to do was have pre-registrations so companies, individuals and governments could reserve their names and trademarks. As for quality updated information on the net, check the .asia forums out there.

In my humble opinion dotasia.org did well. They are cashing in on the domain frenzy big time. Check the domain tickers on their website. It is basically a scrolling stock market domain price indicator. A group called Sunrise have reserved a giant swath of quality domains and are auctioning them off for a humble penny.
